James D. Wolfensohn Posthumously Honored with the Peace Connection Award

Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina – The Center for Peace and Multiethnic Cooperation proudly awarded the prestigious Peace Connection Award 2024 posthumously to James D. Wolfensohn, former President of the World Bank, in recognition of his significant contributions to fostering peace and rebuilding cultural heritage. The award was presented during an emotional ceremony, where his daughter, Sara Wolfensohn, accepted the honor on his behalf.

James D. Wolfensohn played a pivotal role in the Global Partnership with UNESCO and the City of Mostar in 1998, which led to the reconstruction of the iconic Old Bridge and the revitalization of Mostar’s historic city center. This partnership not only symbolized the rebirth of a city ravaged by conflict but also underscored Wolfensohn’s unwavering commitment to promoting global unity and cooperation.

In her heartfelt speech, Sara Wolfensohn remarked, “Mostar truly never forgets its friends.” She expressed deep gratitude for the recognition of her father’s enduring legacy in advancing peace and connection among diverse communities.

Since its establishment in 2004, the Peace Connection Award has celebrated individuals and organizations worldwide who demonstrate extraordinary dedication to fostering peace, mutual understanding, and collaboration. Previous laureates include Nelson Mandela, Václav Havel, Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei, and Antonio Guterres, among other prominent figures.

The Center for Peace is honored to commemorate James D. Wolfensohn’s enduring contributions to global peacebuilding and the reconstruction of Mostar, a city that stands as a universal symbol of resilience, unity, and hope.
